Our Approach to Managing Eye Conditions

Managing eye disease starts with understanding your unique risk factors, lifestyle, and long-term goals. Eye Contacts provides thorough screenings, clear explanations, and individualized plans designed to slow progression, preserve vision, and improve your quality of life.

We work closely with local ophthalmologists for surgical referrals when needed and believe that patient education is key. You’ll always leave your appointment knowing your options and feeling supported in your care decisions.

Modern Tools, Early Detection

Our advanced imaging and diagnostic technology allows us to detect changes in your eye health early, often before you notice symptoms, including the Maestro2 OCT, iCare tonometer, and Medmont topographer. We use Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) to capture detailed scans of your retina and optic nerve, while fundus photography helps us monitor diabetic and macular health.

Visual field testing helps us detect signs of glaucoma and neurological issues, and our iCare tonometer provides comfortable, no-puff eye pressure checks to catch signs of glaucoma early. These tools give us a clearer, deeper view of your eyes, helping us create proactive, personalized care plans.

On the right side, a blue poster is attached to the wall, featuring a detailed diagram of the eye's anatomy. In the center, a table holds three eye examination machines, one of which is actively being used, while the other two are positioned in front of it. The room is well-lit, and the overall atmosphere is clean and professional.

Common Conditions We Monitor & Manage

Our experienced team offers diagnosis, management, and co-management services for a range of common eye conditions that can affect your vision:

Glaucoma: Often called the “silent thief of sight,” glaucoma causes gradual damage to the optic nerve. We monitor eye pressure, nerve health, and peripheral vision changes to detect and manage glaucoma early.

Diabetic Retinopathy: Patients with diabetes are at higher risk for changes to the tiny blood vessels in the retina. Regular eye exams help us catch these changes early and coordinate care with your physician.

Macular Degeneration: Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) affects central vision and is a leading cause of vision loss in adults over 60. Early diagnosis and lifestyle guidance are key to managing its progression.

Cataracts: Cataracts cause clouding of the eye’s natural lens, affecting clarity and contrast. We monitor cataract development and work with trusted surgeons for co-management when surgery becomes necessary.

Hypertensive Retinopathy: High blood pressure can damage the blood vessels in the eye. Our imaging tools help us detect early signs of hypertension-related changes and support your overall health team.

Medication-Related Vision Changes: Certain systemic medications can affect your eye health. We monitor at-risk patients closely to detect early warning signs and protect your vision.

Dry Eye Disease: Dry eye is a common condition that can cause burning, stinging, and blurry vision. We take a medical approach to treatment with personalized care plans that may include prescription drops, supplements, and lifestyle guidance to relieve symptoms and improve comfort.

When to Schedule an Eye Health Assessment

We recommend annual eye health checks for patients over 60, those living with diabetes or high blood pressure, and anyone with a family history of glaucoma or macular degeneration. If you notice symptoms like blurry vision, eye pain, sudden floaters, flashes of light, or reduced peripheral vision, it’s important to schedule a visit as soon as possible.

Early detection is the best defence against permanent vision loss and our experienced team is here to help you stay proactive.
